Draupadi Murmu is India’s 15th and current President. She is also a former Odisha cabinet minister and former Jharkhand governor.

Murmu will take over as President once Ram Nath Govind finishes his tenure this year. She is India’s first president from a tribal community.

Murmu was also the first tribal woman to be elected governor of Jharkhand, and the BJD supported her in the election since she was from Orissa, and her government provided excellent governance.

Early Life of Draupadi Murmu

Murmu was born in 1958 into a simple family in a distant hamlet of Mayurbhanj, an Odisha tribal area.From 1979 to 1983, she worked as a junior assistant in the State Irrigation and Power Department, and subsequently as a teacher at the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre in Rairangpur until 1997.

Political Career of Draupadi Murmu

In 1997, she was voted to the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat council as a councilor. She would later become an MLA from the same constituency. She was able to become the first tribal governor of Jharkhand by doing well in the party. Before taking office as the governor of Jharkhand on May 18, 2015, Murmu served in the BJD-BJP coalition administration in Odisha as an MLA twice and a minister once. Murmu held the position until 2021.

Her family member was educated and occupies a respectable position in the village despite being born in a backward location and in a tribal household. Her father and grandparents were village leaders, and she enjoys a prominent role in the community.

She had lost her husband and two adult boys, but she never gave up. Murmu is a dedicated follower of the Brahma Kumaris’ meditation practises, which she discovered after losing loved ones. According to IANS, Murmu initially became involved with the Brahma Kumari Sansthan in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, some 13 years ago.
